HWPL To Go – Window Pick Up FAQ’s

 

Q: Can I pick up any book I want at the window?

A: Only items on the hold shelf are available for pick up at the window. You must have placed a hold either online through our catalog, by email request (info@hwlibrary.org) or over the phone (978-468-5577 ext. 618) with a staff member. Due to staffing limitations no walk-up requests will be taken.

Q: What if I don’t have a library card?

A: Email us at info@hwlibrary.org with your first name, last name, Hamilton or Wenham address, phone number and preferred email address and we will get you set up with a card within 24 hours (not including weekends). We will email you your card number so you can start placing holds and using our electronic resources.

Q: What if I don’t know my library card number or PIN?

A: If you don’t know your library card number please call or email us and we will look it up for you. Your PIN is typically set as either the last 4 digits of your phone number OR the last 4 digits of your library card number. If that doesn’t work give us a call and we can reset your PIN for you.

Q: What if I don’t know what books I want?

A: Fill out our “Next Great Reads” form and we’ll select some books for you based on your reading habits and what you like. This service is available for adults, teens, and children. Please allow at least 24-48 hours for book recommendations to be put on the holds shelf.

If you would like a bundle of children’s picture books on a certain theme or topic – or even a random pick of good stuff! – please call our children’s room directly at 978-468-5577 ext. 613 and our children’s room staff will put a bundle together for you.

Q: Can I return items?

A: The Library book drop is open and you may return Library materials that you are finished with. Please be aware that returns are being quarantined for at least 3 days before they are checked in. Items may continue to appear on your account after you have returned them.

Q: When will you be open?

A: The Library has a phased re-opening plan that we are following. Each phase requires guidance from state and local officials as to when we can start each one. When we have notification that we can begin safely adding library services an announcement will be made on our website and over our social media channels. We don’t anticipate re-opening the physical Library space until at least July.

Q: Are you taking donations?

A: We are NOT taking any donations at this time. For the safety of staff please do not put donations into the book drop or leave them in front of the building. Any donations left at the Library will be thrown out.

Q: Can I place a hold on items at another library?

A: Inter-library loan between libraries in MVLC has restarted as of July 20, 2020. There is currently a large backlog of items being requested so we ask for your patience as member libraries get back up to speed. The “Place Hold” button has been restored to the catalog consortium wide. CommCat requests and out-of-state requests has not started back up again.
