Library Solar Panels
A 138 kW DC / 100 kW AC solar array was constructed on the rooftop of the Hamilton-Wenham Library in Fall 2022 and was placed online on December 13, 2022. The array will produce approximately 150,000 kWh of electricity annually, which is 85% of the Library’s annual electricity use. The array is owned and operated by Solect Energy, from whom the Town of Hamilton will purchase all of the electricity that the array produces for a fixed rate of $0.126/kWh over the twenty year contract term, compared to the National Grid retail rate of $0.339/kWh which took effect on November 1, 2022.
By bringing this new renewable energy source online, the Town is insulated against fluctuating utility costs, and is making a meaningful contribution to the effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
